Chesham 2 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Lost By 26 runs
Match report
An ultimately disappointing result saw Amersham 2nd XI lose away to Chesham on Saturday. Damp and frankly miserable overhead early conditions saw Chesham bat first on a good track and some slightly loose opening overs allowed the Chesham openers to sprint from the blocks, but with Rogers extracting bounce and pace the first 10 overs saw Chesham pulled back to 51-3. Rance and Asuaf then set about a rebuilding process, with Rance (45) particularly quick to punish anything loose, and it was with considerable relief that Paul Langley took a high swirling catch to give Chris Owen the first of his six victims in an excellent spell of controlled seam bowling. 117-3 became 154-9 and Amersham sensed an early tea but optimism was misplaced as Hall and Clifford added a well made 51 run partnership for the final wicket.
In reply Nick Nguyen went early and Hugh Coles and H Jackson then carefully saw the score to 43 before Jackson guided one to gully to bring in Paul Langley whose impressive early season form had formed the backbone of the Amersham batting in the matches thus far this season. Sadly a rather dubious LBW decision saw him quickly back to the pavilion and the much-heralded middle order thereafter failed to greatly trouble the scorers. All the while at the other end Hugh Coles, playing his first game of the season for Amersham, was batting quite beautifully combining solid defence with crisp drives and pulls, and whilst he remained at the crease an Amersham victory still seemed possible. With a century at his mercy Hugh sadly played perhaps his only false shot of the afternoon and was bowled by Asaf ( 6-63) for an excellent 92, and despite a couple of lusty blows from the tail, the Amersham innings came to an end to give Chesham the rewards for their tight bowling throughout.
