Farnham Royal 2 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 30 Jun 2012 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won By 162 Runs
Match report
Amersham 2s arrived at Farnham Royal on Saturday knowing that a win was crucial especially after the disappointing loss to Marlow Park the week before. The wicket looked in very good condition and when winning the toss we had no hesitation in electing to bat first.
An opening stand of 92 between B.Langley(18) and Nguyen(60) got us of to the perfect start which saw some explosive hitting from Nguyen which included 2 big straight sixes. Haddock(35) who was making his first appearance of the season looked in fine form, using the sweep shot to great effect and producing one of the shots of the day with a six through mid wicket. Once Haddock and P.Langley(21) were dismissed this saw Weston(47 n.o) and Tilbury(22) at the crease to punish the Farnham Royal bowlers even further. Weston especially showed how good a batting track it was with a wonderful display of quick scoring which included another Amersham 6 and this time the ball ended up in the clubs nets. Amersham set a very competitive total of 237 at the halfway stage but the best was yet to come......
The old ball was taken after tea with Sidebottom(2-18) who got the crucial early breakthrough with a good catch by Jack Rogers at mid-wicket, whilst Ward (1-6) was bowling as economical as ever at the other end. However, Amersham really took the initiative when the new ball was taken by J Rogers(3-32) and Mckay (2-10) who bowled in tandem to great effect. They both made great use of the new ball and bowled with great accuracy and pace which the Farnham Royal batsman had no answer to. All the bowlers were backed up superbly by the fielders who took every catchable chance and a Turney direct hit run out rounded of a superb team performance.
With 8 wickets down the Farnham Royal batsman realised that all they could hope for was a draw but with 9 overs to go in the match Sidebottom and Ward both came back into the attack to take the remaining 2 wickets. This fantastic victory earnt us 25 points and continued our surge up the table.
It is very important that we keep this standard of performance up for the visit of Wycombe Dragons on Saturday.
