AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Chesham 2 on Sat 04 Aug 2012 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won By 4 Wickets
Match report
Amersham won the toss at a suprisingly dry looking Shardeloes considering the heavy downpours only a few hours before the start. Amersham put local rivals Chesham into bat with Ashley Turney (3-37) and Ollie Lansdowne (0-28) opening the bowling. Turney removed Chesham's top three batsman by showing good pace, accuracy and aggression.
A bowling change resulted in Tom Dixon (6-21) showing fantastic consistency and accuracy in his 16.1 overs. The Chesham batsman found it very difficult to score as very few bad balls were bowled. Henry Bugg (1-16) also showed great concentration and accuracy in a very good spell of seam bowling. Overall the bowling and fielding was much improved on the week before with good catches being taken. Chesham bowled out for a distinctly average 104.
In reply, Langley (18) and Nguyen (14) began the chase of 104 and reached 31-0 of 8 overs before there was a short delay due to a brief downpour. We then lost a few quick wickets and from being in total control at 31-0 we were now 80-6 and Chesham sensed an unlikely win. Alex Dale (39 n.o) and Tom Dixon (14 n.o) were at the crease and settled any Amersham nerves with a comfortable win by 4 wickets. Dale showed superb concentration and clean hitting in his match winning knock which included a wonderful pull through the mid wicket region for six. Dixon supported Dale really well when he arrived at the crease and showed all his experience to ensure Amersham earned a much needed 20 points.
With second, third and fourth placed teams in our league all losing this weekend, it leaves us within 8 points of third place and a chance of pushing for second place. Next week we travel to second place OMT's in what will be a very important game.
