AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Wycombe Dragons 1 on Sat 05 Jul 2014 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 131 runs
Match report
A very strong looking Amersham side welcomed Wycombe Dragons to Shardeloes. Wycombe had begun to win a few games so this game would be a challenge. The challenge begun successfully as Captain 'clangers' won the toss and elected to bat first.
The opening partnership between Stephenson (57) and Bowcock (48) was the perfect start for us and both of them batted beautifully. Both the openers were then out in quick succession and it was heard from the boundary that one of the Wycombe players said 'we are through them now boys'. This said we now had Fleming and Cann at the crease. It only took a couple of overs from these two to make the Wycombe fielders realise that they certainly were not through us and would be made to pay for that irresponsible comment. Cann played some fantastic shots including two huge straight sixes and Fleming raised his bat to the Shardeloes crowds as he thought he had reached 50 when in fact he was only on 35 and went on to make a very impressive 37. A daunting total of 251-9 for Wycombe to chase.
Douglas (4-45) and Ahmed(1-49) began with the old bowl and we soon had Wycombe struggling on 79-6 mainly due to the consistent line, length, spin and bounce from Douglas. When the new ball was eventually taken after 20 overs Sritharan (2-14) bowled really well and the last few wickets were taken by the all-rounder Cann (3-10) who to most of the players amazement bowled with good pace and fully deserved his wickets.
Less said about the broken glass champagne moment the better!
A really impressive win which sees us top of the league at the half way stage and still unbeaten. We must keep our feet on the ground and keep the impressive performances going. Well done all!
