Marlow 2 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 19 Jul 2014 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 151 runs
Match report
The 2nd XI were in high spirits travelling to Marlow as we were unbeaten and had another strong side hoping for another victory to increase our lead at the top of the table.
Losing the toss and being asked to bat first turned out to be quite a good toss to lose. Nguyen batted positively and deserved his 55 and it might have been more if he hadn't injured his calf whilst on 16 and required the only man who had been dismissed at the time to run the majority of his runs for him! Well done Stevo. That was punishment for inside edging a full toss onto leg stump! Whilst Nick was batting on one leg, Haddock at the other end was playing some beautiful shots and eased his way to 72 and when both of them were dismissed it left Ali (27n.o.) and Kilgannon (94 n.o.) at the crease with the score on 150-3 after 30 overs. Kilgannon played a brutal innings hitting six sixes in his 94 and with Langley indicating from the boundary that there would be one more over until the declaration, the three figure score was still on. A dot ball ruined the opportunity but then a six of a no-ball made it possible again! He didn't quite make it but this innings made us post a very impressive total of 277 at tea.
Douglas (7-47) and Raza (1-20) opened the bowling with the old ball. This proved very effective once again. The Marlow batsman really struggled with the spin early on. They found themselves 45-7 after only 17 overs. However if we thought we would coast to victory then we were wrong as it then took us 21 overs to take the eighth wicket and by this time Marlow were confident of batting out for the draw. However, Douglas was re-introduced into the attack and took the eight wicket with his first over of his second spell and took the last two soon after. A wonderful spell of left arm spin bowling for the third week in a row and such a valuable asset to have in our side.
A really well earnt 25 points which increases our lead a the top of Division 4A to 45 points. There are still seven games remaining in our league season and still a lot of points up for grabs. Nothing is won yet. We must keep this level of performance up every week starting with Chsham 3's at Shardeloes on Saturday. Well done all!!!!!
