AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Chesham 3 on Sat 26 Jul 2014 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 160 runs

Match report An important league game saw us welcome Chesham 3rd XI to Shardeloes. With only seven league games to go we knew this was a vital fixture which we needed to win to increase our lead at the top of the table and to make sure we took nothing for granted.

Another toss win saw us elect to bat first on a very warm and sunny afternoon and the wicket looked hard and the outfield was going to be very fast.

Edward 'Woody' Bowcock (59) played some very impressive shots at the top of the order and saw us reach 140-1 from 22 overs before he bizarrely ran himself out. A three figure score for him was definitely on the cards and I'm sure it's not far from that happening. Chris Fleming (129 n.o.) came to the crease in the sixth over and dictated the game with his bat for 39 overs. He played shots to all parts of the ground and we all know that when he finds momentum then nothing can stop him scoring as many runs as he wants to. Fleming brought up his hundred with a three through mid-wicket. The third run saw him run towards the pavilion end and celebrate with a fist pump to the players and supporters watching on. A wonderfully paced innings which saw us post a daunting 295-7 declared from 45 overs. The only thing to disappoint Fleming was the declaration as he said 'I have never been involved in a TVL game where we have posted 300+ runs'. There is always next week Chris!

As has been the trend in the last few weeks, we once again began with the old ball and opened the bowling with Douglas (3-8) and Raza (1-35). The Chesham batsman didn't show much intent to try and win this game and were 23-1 from 11 overs. A lot of defensive shots were on show and the new ball was taken after 15 overs. Sritharan (4-40) bowled a fantastic spell of fast bowling which saw him claim four vital Chesham wickets. A wonderful run out from Bowcock whilst fielding at long-on was another highlight and showed just how high our standards of fielding have been throughout the whole season. Douglas was re-introduced into the attack when seven wickets were down and he soon took the final three to secure our fourth 25 point victory on the bounce. This now puts us 49 points clear of second place.

Next week will see us travel to Hillingdon Manor in another vital fixture. Our last six league games this season will be very difficult. Nothing is won yet and we need to keep the performances at a high level so we keep winning. Can everyone please try and make themselves available for as many of the next six Saturday's as possible.
