Scorecard

AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Farnham Royal on Sat 23 Aug 2014 at 12:30
Match was Drawn

Match report The 2nd XI welcomed Farnham Royal to Shardeloes. Promotion was confirmed after last weeks 25 point win at Cookham Dean however if we scored more points than Farnham we would be crowned champions of Division 4A.

A toss was lost for the first time in five games and it resulted in us having to bowl first. The Farnham top order batted positively and scored quickly. Our bowling wasn't quite up to the high standard we have been setting ourselves for the majority of this season. The fielding was a little bit sloppy in places and this was partly down to a loss in concentration which is something that needs to be worked on for Division 3 cricket next season.

Having said all this Farnham had raced onto 80-1 from 14 overs before the introduction of Atkinson (5-65). Atko showed excellent consistency in his line and length once again and kept the Farnham batsman from posting a really large total. His five wicket haul was fully deserved. Farnham posted 229-9 declared after 50 overs which meant that we would need to score 230 to win the league this Saturday.

Our innings did not get of to the best start as we found ourselves 7-2 after 5 overs. Farnham started with the old ball and two early LBW's got them sensing a 25 point victory (The last team to beat us in a home league game was Farnham Royal and that was back on 1st September 2012!). E.Bowcock (67) was still at the crease and played a superb innings in the difficult circumstances. Men round the bat and the ball spinning and bouncing didn't phase him. He showed brilliant technique and shot selection. A vital game saving innings. However, when he was dismissed in the 32nd over with the score at 103-4 the main objective was to ensure Farnham didn't win the game. The lower order showed good resilience which hasn't been required on many occasions this season. Well done to Lansdowne (7 n.o.) and Raza (21 n.o.) for seeing out the last ten overs. I'm not sure what Raza was thinking when he hit a six over the sightscreen and into the cornfield with 4 overs to go but it was great entertainment for all watching on.

Amersham 7 points
Farnham Royal 14 points

Not the the ideal result for us but the main achievement was not letting Farnham win. This leaves us requiring 8 points from our final two matches to finish the season as champions of Division 4A. Let's make sure we finish the job at our final home league game of the season on Saturday as we welcome Datchet 2's to Shardeloes.
