AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Datchet 2 on Sat 30 Aug 2014 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Lost by 71 runs
Match report
Going into this fixture we were already promoted and knew we would be playing Division 3 cricket next season. However we wanted to put the cherry on top by winning the league and we could achieve that by getting eight or more points from this fixture.
Datchet won the toss and unsurprisingly they batted first as they needed as many points as possible to avoid being drawn into the relegation battle. Sritharan (2-12) bowled once again a very impressive opening spell which saw him remove two of Datchet's top three batsman. Baldwin (0-20) was also quite economical and bowled a good consistent line and length. A short spell from Adam Ali was then followed by the final 36 overs of the Datchet innings being bowled by Atkinson (5-55) and Raza (2-60). Both bowled in tandem to great effect with very few bad balls delivered. Atkinson was rewarded with another 5 wicket haul and I hope these regular '5fer's' continue in Division 3 next season. Raza showed clever variation in his bowling and deserved more than the 2 wickets he took. The fielding was good once again and in particular the three catches taken by Danny 'safe hands' Colq. Four points earnt for our bowling effort. We would have to chase down the 164 Datchet set in order to see us crowned champions of Division 4A.
Our reply did not begin well with Langley being run out in the first over without troubling the scorers. We struggled to get going and didn't register many boundaries in the first 20 overs. This was mainly due to Datchet's good bowling display and you could just sense that they seemed to want it a bit more than us. A brief glimmer of a successful run chase appeared when Danny Colq (45) got going but when he was caught in the covers any hope we had had vanished. All out for 92 in just 37 overs.
Amersham 4 points
Datchet 25 points
With only 4 points gained from this match, we knew that if second place Farnham Royal failed to win batting first then we would have won the league. Many ACC members (including the chairman) were busily refreshing their twitter feeds as the results from other TVL games filtered through. Finally we heard that Farnham Royal had been defeated which meant that we were confirmed as champions. A huge congratulations to all players that have played their part in the 2nd XI this season and I'm sure that everyone will agree that this is fully deserved for the hard work put in throughout the season.
We can now travel to Wycombe Dragons on Saturday for our final league game knowing that we will be able to celebrate after the game whatever the result turns out to be.
REMINDER: Can everyone please remember that the ACC Awards evening is at Shardeloes on Saturday 6th September from 8pm. Can you all make every effort to attend to celebrate a wonderful season for the club.
