AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Cookham Dean on Sun 11 May 2014 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 7 wickets
Match report
After the Saturday 1st XI game was called off after 15 minutes of arriving at an underwater Shardeloes, it is quite incredible that a game was managed against Cookham Dean on Sunday.
The morning pitch inspection with the Saturday captains involved some foot tapping , a couple of practice balls, and heaps of self-convincing chat. The game was declared on and players arrived at a wet Shardeloes. Not even the attempts of a rogue dog could prevent play from starting.
After losing the toss for a second consecutive outing, Cookham Dean decided to bat. Unfortunately, with 7 eager batsmen and 11 very cold cricketers waiting in the changing room, it would have been favourable to win this one. Jumpers were required.
Andy Viney managed to get things off to good start. The inswinger was used early and the conclusion was fairly predictable. Notable performances included Raza's pressure bowling; consecutive maidens from his first 4 overs. Stephan managed to increase his impressive figures and currently has a bowling average of 0.5 which we are all keen for him to better. A few hilarious dropped catches later (and one impressive grab from Mike Viney) Cookham Dean were all out for 112.
A paragraph is being used for appreciation of Mel Weston's tea. Every cricket tea should have Madeira cake.
A nervy start to the batting saw Amersham lose 3 wickets but victory was always inevitable with the batting line up. Stephan notable for his 54 not out in quick time.
Performance of the day goes to Mike Viney for entertaining fielding and some great scoring (everyone cricketer loves balls faced statistics in the book). Cryptics follow next Sunday in an all day game.
