Match report Amersham CC Sunday cricket got underway on a rainy Sunday afternoon against a friendly Paddington CC team. After morning showers, the game was quickly reduced to 30 overs a side. This was new captain Plangers' first game in charge of the Sunday team and things didn't start well when, after losing the toss, he had to go and explain to the other 9 team members that we would have to field first in the rain.

Jumpers out, hand warmers in pockets, and sawdust down - we took to the field. As the senior bowler in the side, Stuart chose his end and bowled with real intent displaying good control and movement out of the hand ('the Inswinger') picking up a couple of well earned wickets. Ollie Lansdowne was not rewarded with a wicket but bowled impressively with good pace and bounce. The unluckiest spell of the day goes to Rahim who saw two catching chances and a stumping missed in his 4 overs. He gained some reward by clean bowling one of their middle order through the gate due to his persistently good length. Raza Ahmed bowled his off breaks with an aggressive line and good pace towards the latter stages of innings picking up a wicket as reward. However, bowling performance of the day goes to the new overseas Stephan Joubert whose figures speak for themselves. Having picked up 9 wickets in his first weekend for Amersham - he is settling in nicely and will be essential to a successful season of Sunday cricket.

We batted after a classical Mel Weston tea. Ben Langley and Joe Shuttle led the Amersham innings well with a pitch that began to do a bit more as the rain fell. Unfortunately the rain rendered the ground unplayable in the 12th over with the score 42 - 0.

As a team we stuck at it in conditions which weren't too friendly. Performance of the day goes to Stephan for a masterclass in arm ball bowling. Next week's game is in the ECB National Knockout Cup away against North Maidenhead which should hopefully give us our first result and a win.
