AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Crouch End on Sun 13 Jul 2014 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 132 runs

Match report I remember writing a match report for the Jesters game earlier in the season which centred around a captain's confidence on the names in his team. When drawing up the teamsheet for our home league match against Crouch End I found myself rubbing my hands together (no reference implied). It was so good that my own brother made the bold statement "if we lose on Sunday it will be the biggest disaster in Amersham cricket history". Fortunately we won and Blangie managed to save himself from the coveted 'D*** of the Year' award.

Having lost the toss after a sluggish start by both teams (and Tillers) Crouch End decided to defy Sunday cricket convention and bowl, much to the delight of a few groggy Amersham cricketers (mainly Tillers).

The used Amersham wicket had a bit of spice early on with Andy getting a far from healthy glove off a length delivery. After surviving a few early wicket scares, the second wicket partnership of 135 runs put us in a fantastic position for the last 10 overs of the innings. Adam Ali once again timing most of the balls he faced for his 46. Bruce Friderichs made a rare but valuable Sunday appearance scoring 50 at more than a run a ball.

Any slight concerns we had as a team that the opposition might chase down our total were quashed when the first ball of the second innings saw Sham bowl their opener through his legs. His second wicket was much more classical for a left arm seamer - a good length nipping back between bat and pad to take the top of off. There has been a lot of talk about Sham after Sunday; conversation which is filled with superlatives and much potential. A great bowler to have in our team and we are all looking forward to seeing his development in the coming years.

After the openers had impacted the damage, the moment came when the two overseas spinners bowled in tandem. Unfortunately, the results are still inconclusive as they both took a wicket and went for hardly any runs. Raza bowled with purpose as always and took a blinder of a caught and bowled - potentially catch of the season. However, the inspired bowling change after drinks saw Brucey take 2 for 11 and surely cement his spot bowling in the 1s. Adam Ali cleaned up the innings with a little edge and we won with a 132 run difference.

Well played everyone. Bruce and Dougie, you are always welcome at any time. We are now up to second in the league with what seems to be a big title decider against Harefield in the coming weeks.

Next week is a friendly against South Oxfordshire Amateurs with the potential for someone else to captain the side!
