Match report A frustrating day for the Sunday 1st XI at Cockfosters. Our battle towards promotion continues, but suffers a slight hiccup as we are pogoed by one of the weaker teams in the league.

Going into the game Cockfosters were on -2 points (due to bad admin) and we were in high spirits. Due to late rearrangement, Joe Weston grabbed his whites and took his spot for his first adult match at Amersham CC.

We were greeted with a two paced wicket; from the first over it was clear that batting wouldn't be easy. As it turned out, 480 runs were scored in 81 overs.

Stephan got us off to a great start, as he has most of the season, with an array of shots all around the wicket. The most notable being a pull for six which he was first to state was 'going up and up and up and up'. At 70 for 5 we were in a spot of trouble, but the lower half of the batting line up managed to recover the innings. Stuart and Mike all batted well to score quick runs around Ben Langley (52*) who held the innings together with many well timed strokes. Oli Lansdowne added a quick 30*, which included a 5, to bring our innings total to 241.

However, as soon as we took the momentum into lunch, the Cockfosters pendulum was quick to swing back and ruin all hopes we had of winning this match. Not much can be said of our bowling efforts. Stuart and Oli started well for the first 10, but nothing could prevent Cockfosters from scoring quick runs and they managed to chase the total down in under 40 overs at a run rate of over 6 an over. Notable positives include Oli's caught and bowled, which he dropped 7 times simultaneously. Notable negatives include Stuart's misfield for 4, only for him not to arise with cries of 'it's gone!'.

Due to results elsewhere, our next league game could see us promoted with a win. We travel to Harefield on 17 August.
