AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Shardeloes XI on Sun 06 Jul 2014 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Lost By 2 wickets
Match report
A glorious sunny afternoon at Amersham CC saw the Sunday 1st XI lose to the Shardeloes XI who chased down a moderate total of 139 with 2 wickets remaining.
Having feasted on a fantastic Mel Weston lunch Amersham won the toss and, owing to the Sunday cricket conventions, decided to bat first.
The opening pair was decided early; Nick Nguyen and Alex Tilbury. A pair that had the potential to getting ACC off to a quick start with aggressive stroke play over the infield. Unfortunately we came up against a bowling attack that was a match for any Saturday Home Counties team. A great display with the ball saw ACC reduced to 139 off 40 overs. Notable moments include the 49 balls Nick couldn't edge (ending up being bowled) and Paul Weston's self-examination of his shot upon snicking off (expletives included).
Although a low total posted, there was enough bounce and carry in the track to give belief 10 wickets could be taken. Good spells by Jack and Stuart helped reduce the runs at the start. This was backed up in the middle with Robbie, Stephan(o) and Raza all taking wickets. But the 9th wickets stand of 45 or so saw the Shardeloes XI home.
Many thanks to the Tyrwhitt-Drake family who always turn out with a good side, and bring the weather. Thanks also go to Tony Chick, Michael Knox and Steph Weston who helped officiate the match.
League matches continue next week against Crouch End at home.
