AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Cryptics on Sun 21 Jun 2015 at 11:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 111 runs
Match report
Another convincing win for the Sunday 1st team continues our successful campaign that brings our tally to 7 games played this season and 6 wins. After a lengthy discussion in the middle regarding the strength of both teams, it was decided (to the popularity of the Amersham players) that we will bat first. Having Hugh on the M40 and Blangie at somewhere unmentionable at kick off, this was a great relief to everyone involved.
We were without a visible scoreboard this week due to the Summer Ball/Chally's Club/Jazz concert, but we didn't need to numbers to know Adam Ali was scoring freely. He was supported by batsmen that came and went; Alex Tilbury (22) with a lovely six into the changing room and Shuv and Freddie provided some glimpses of quality. The entire team was backing Adam to get over the line but unfortunately for him, mid-wicket caught an exceptional catch on the boundary off a well timed hook shot leaving him two short of his maiden ton for the Sunday team. Some stroke play at the end from Hugh Jackson (41) and Ben Langley (27) saw us declare for a competitive 263, 9 down, with just about half the time played.
To continue the trend of tea this year at Amersham, Sam kindly served up Westy's chilli with warm bread and nachos. Delicious.
We have around half an hour to bowl at the opposition before the tea break and really made the most of the time. Stuart (1 - 33) and Callum (3-22) both bowled with their tails up and had the opposition 4 down for not many when we entered the second interval. After the break saw a cricketing event occur that happens once a year (much like Christmas, but a little more joyous); Blangie removed the gloves and marked his run up. For those that don't know, Blangie has bowled 3 overs in his career and taken a wicket in each of these overs. After his first over, he had a warning for a no ball and no wicket. He somehow got the nod for a second and the low full toss saw a brotherly combined wicket caught at mid-on; celebrations all round. We ended the match with some tight bowling from Freddie Bowcock and Charlie Fallan, but not before Hugh Jackson took 3 (burgled?) wickets with his revived off-spin.
Next week sees the league season continue away at Harefield with all to play for in Division 1.
