AMERSHAM CC U15A Strikers v Taplow on Fri 27 May 2005 at
AMERSHAM CC Won 58 Runs
Match report
How these teams must enjoy turning up for a game at Amersham these days - a beautiful evening for a change, the bar open and a good thrashing in prospect!
Amersham won the toss and decided to bat.
After the previous weeks 99 Not Out, Jack Kilgannon again put the sword to the opposition bowling with a tremendous 101 Not out (Retired) ably assisted to Olly Haddock who was unlucky to chip one and was caught for 18. Replacing Olly came debutant Hugh Coles who as an U12 shows great promise and was Not Out for 7 at the end of the game as he rotated the strike to Jack. Upon Jack's retirement Matt Mackay joined Hugh and both were undefeated at the end of 20 overs, where Matt had made 4 and the Amersham score stood at 152.
Taplow went out to bat in confident mood, opining, as I heard, that 152 wasn't a particularly challenging target and that about 16 overs should suffice.
After a couple of looseners, Matt Mackway was on the money again and the final ball of his first over removed their opener for 2. A couple of overs later Alex Tilbury removed their other opener and with Ned Kilgannon behind the stumps for the quicker bowlers, Taplow had progressed to 36-2 after 8 overs. On came the first change bowlers in the shape of Olly Haddock and Jack Kilgannon, with Elliot Ketteringham replacing Ned behind the stumps standing up to try to winkle out a couple more wickets. The two bowlers demonstrated some quite awesome variation to confuse the Taplow batsmen and sure enough after another 4 overs, two more Taplow batsmen had made the long walk back after missing one going forward and presenting Elliot with all he needed to despatch them. Jack also managed to persuade the Taplow umpire of an LBW shout that Elliot reckoned later to have pitched a good foot outside leg stump, but of course that's not what it says in the scorebook.
So 16 overs gone and Taplow are 77 for 5, but they press on as Amersham introduce the Rogers Twins as second change bowlers, who as twins of course return exactly the same bowling figures of 2/0/8/1, wrapping up the 20 overs very nicely.
Taplow 94-7 after 20.
All done by 20:40 - we don't know who our opponents are in the next round as the BCB website is not up to date, but it could be the old enemy Beaconsfield (Away).
