Match report Amersham 1st XI travelled to North Maidenhead on Saturday and came away with a healthy haul of points from a drawn game. Batting first for the 5th consecutive time in the league the Viney brothers, Rob and Andy, had the task of blunting South African first class opening bowler Charl Pietersen's edge. This was managed for the cost of one wicket, Andy falling to a good catch at the wicket. Chris Cann and Dan Colquhoun both batted very well in a third wicket partnership of 40 but the 5th wicket fell with the score still below 100. However, Richard Stephenson (47) and Chris Owen (54 not out) showed the benefit of a side having a strong middle order as they put on 85 for the 6th wicket and gained a good deal of momentum for Amersham. After tea, Amersham exerted considerable pressure on the North Maidenhead openers and, although spinners Atkinson & Rajabali went wicketless, two runouts were effected. Dan Colquhoun, fielding at mid off, hit the stumps with direct hits twice and added a good catch on the boundary to his haul later in the game. Simon Carter, North Maidenhead's captain, provided considerable resistance and, in company with Pietersen, showed signs of launching an attack on Amersham's total when he was very well caught by Chris Cann at deep square leg. This prompted the home team to play for the draw. They successfully acheived this despite three wickets in quick succession for the ageless Rajabali. This gained Amersham another bowling point, but was too little, too late to influence the result of the game.
