Match report Amersham played much better cricket at Fleet to have the best part of a draw.

On a wet wicket, the Fleet skipper had no hesitation in inserting the visitors. Immediate rewards were reaped, as Fleming flailed at and edged a short ball from Chalkley. Things looked to be going Fleet's way, as the umpire allowed a final delivery in heavy rain, wich struck Andy Viney in front. After the rain break, with the match reduced to 94 overs, Ketteringham was then unfortunately adjudged caught behind by the same umpire (who later apologised for his performance, explaining that he had been in a car accident en route to the game). Jackson and Cann set about rebuilding, with Cann particularly effective before he was dismissed for 42 with the score on 71. Owen (49) joined Jackson (74) to form an excellent partnership of 109 before both were dismissed in quick succession, and Ward and Viney showed cool heads to steer Amersham to maximum batting points.

Unusually, Jackson took the new ball and was rewarded with wickets from both Ward and Dixon. Dixon then removed Talbot to put the vistors on top, with Fleet on 47 for 3. With Downs at the wicket, the home side were always in the hunt, but their chances of victory were dealt critical blows in an excellent spell by Rajabali (3 for 23). AT 97 for 6, with just 14 overs remaining, Fleet were now playing for a draw, and despite two wickets for Jackson, played out comfortably enough.
