Tring Park 2 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 on Sat 16 Aug 2008 at 12:30
Match was Drawn

Match report Amersham visited Tring on Saturday and dominated the game without managing to turn that domination into victory. After a wet week the Tring groundstaff deserve commendation for producing a good wicket that played well all afternoon. The Amersham innings was a well constructed affair, with all the batsmen contributing to the final total of 265-6. Andy Viney and Chrsi Fleming negated any early threat from the new ball and soon began to assert themsleves. Remarkably, Fleming's rapid 43 included 10 fours. Having got off the mark with a cover drive that was retrieved a few yards inside the boundary he then eschewed running entirely and scored the rest of his runs in boundaries. Viney was typically watchful, and built on the good start after Fleming's dismissal. He was very well caught at slip by Richard Ambrose for 47. However, Luke Jackson (30) and Rob Viney (58) did not let up, putting together a partnership of 66 for the 4th wicket. This put Amersham in a very strong position, and the icing on the cake was added by Richard Stephenson, whose 48 was scored off only 31 balls. After tea, when Usain Bolt's extraordinary performance in the 100 metres final in Beijing was enjoyed over the egg sandiches, Amersham set about trying to take 10 wickets. Chris Cann (1-56) struck in the 6th over, bowling Gareth Steptoe and Duncan Ward (1-29) extracted some extra bounce to induce an edge behind with the score on 50. However, at 86-2 after 20 overs Tring were firmly in the game. Turning to spin altered the complexion of the game, however. David Atkinson (3-20) bowled Matt Adams and this triggered something of a collapse. Luke Jackson (4-39) bowled Richard Ambrose with a sharply turning off break and two more quick wickets, one to each spinner, ripped the heart out of the Tring innings. However, Mark Bater organised a determined rearguard action, batting for 90 minutes for an unbeaten 41. Although Atkinson and Jackson both picked up further wickets the Tring tail held on and the game finished in a draw. This leaves Amersham in 5th place in the league table, and they entertain 9th placed Wokingham 2nd XI next Saturday.
