AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Boxmoor 2nd on Sun 04 May 2008 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Won 243 Runs
Match report
Having lost the previous weeks fixture due to rain the forecast didnt look promising, however the rain stayed away to allow the youngsters of both sides to take centre stage on a green but reasonably hard wicket. Nicholas Collison won the toss and decided to have a bat and Tilbury(100*) and Heslop(27) got Amersham off to a perfect start. Heslop then went walking down the wicket and was brilliantly stumped by Boxmoors promising young keeper. In came ths skipper keen to find some early season form. Collison (81*) was supported well by the youngsters with the Rogers trio contributing 44 runs between them and Amersham finished up on 297-6.
Boxmoor began their innings knowing that they had to start scoring quickly. Ben Huxham and Phil Tansey bowled exceptionally well and manged to restrict Boxmoor whilst picking up wickets at regular intervals. First change saw a Rogers partnership of Jack and Stuart(Ian couldn't believe he wasn't given the chance to turn his arm over!). Jack bowled particularly well and was unlucky not to take a wicket although he contributed to 2 run outs in one over. Stuart bowled a peach of a delivery that came back and hit the top of leg stump and Amersham looked on course for an early victory. However Boxmoor frustrated the Amersham bowlers and Collison turned to Huw Thomas to try and break the stranglehold. He managed to flight one that somehow bounced twice and trap the batsman right in front of middle. Micahel Viney bowled well and was unlucky not to take the final wicket leaving that to Heslop who tempted the batsmen into launching one to Stuart Rogers and Amersham had won the match by 247 runs.
It was great to see the display from both teams youngsters who had been involved in the majority of the match. Most of whom will be ones to watch in the future. Amersham continue their unbeaten run with next weeks Cockspur Cup firmly in their thoughts.
