Match report It is with deep regret and sadness that I have to report the our chances of reaching the National U15 Regional and Final stages slipped away last Friday evening.

This match co-incided with the greatest pressure on player availability that we have ever suffered and led to us starting the game with, I believe, 7 players. I myself took 3.5 hours to get from Crawley to Burnham CC, only arriving at about 19:00 to witness Alex Tilbury having removed his sling and fielding, having already taken a catch - what self sacrifice in the support of the club!

I understand that given 6.5 players for some time, we not unexpectedly shipped a lot of runs and were set a pretty big target of I believe 173 to win.

Still, runs hadn't been a barrier to us previously, so the battle was joined.

Here comes a new word to the language - Pietersenesque - it can only be this to describe Jack's valiant effort to get us towards the total - 122 and run-out. Well I was standing pretty close to Square leg and he looked in by a good few inches to me, but of course it was not the totally fair Mr Sidebotham at that end, but their umpire who couldn't get his finger up quickly enough.

We made a great attempt to pursue the remaining runs required, but just didn't have the available firepower left in the hutch and ended just 8 runs short of the total required with a few wickets in hand.

Whether Elliot's housemaster was a good judge of a punishment fitting a crime (withdrawing his permission for Exeat), I couldn't say - I have yet to speak to him, but I feel that if we had had Elliot and Alex Smith (one of Haileybury's top guns), we probably would have made it through to easier meat in the next round.

So this leaves us wondering if we just might have made it this year!

Needless to say Elliot was in pieces after I told him the result - I wasn't too happy myself
