Match report 11 for 2 after 10 overs was not the best start to the 'smellies' 2008 season but the perfectly paced jug avoiding innings from opener Harry Heslop (49) enabled Ian Rogers (90) to smash a few from the other end. In a stand of 143 they turned the match and when the skipper had reached 60 he had scored his 20000th run for the club. Stuart Rogers (22) kept the score ticking along and a late flourish from Hanook Gill (13) saw Amersham bowled out for a respectable 205.

First ball second over and the rankest of long hops affectionately known as the 'Amersham Yorker' appeared from Charlie Holloway bowling for the first time in almost a year. The Hillingdon opener thought Christmas had come early until his top edged hook which should have sailed over the boundary ended up in the bowlers hands. Charlie never drops them off his own bowling! Two more Amersham yorkers and two good balls later Charlie had marked his return with 5 for 34. He was helped by all the bowlers and Hillingdon were never really in the hunt and with wickets from Hanook (3-25) and Stuart Rogers (2-15) they were bowled out 76 runs short of their target for 129. The final wicket was a catch by a brilliant dive/beached whale imitation (delete where appropriate) from ex skipper Huw Thomas. No matter, played 1 won 1 points 25. Amersham starts with an 'A' so we must be top of the league.
