Match report After last week's close fought win against top-of-the-table Kew, Amersham were eagerly awaiting the visit of already relegated Hampton Hill on Saturday. Hampton Hill won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat first on a wicket promising movement to seam bowling. These conditions were to be expertly exploited by the Amersham new ball bowlers Tom Dixon and Brad Holt.

Dixon took 3-15 in the course of his probing 10 over spell, his accuracy and late movement proving too much for the Hill top order. In his final league appearance of the season, Dixon combined twice with Chris Owen at second slip as the latter began to put this season's hard-handed catching blues behind him. Holt was unlucky not to claim a wicket as he swung the ball repeatedly past the edge, although his pressure was surely responsible for the stand out moment of the innings.

After being beaten by a succession of jaffers from Holt, opening bat Barrs-James was so relieved at angling a ball into the covers that he set off for a sharp single. However, after being sent back by his partner the batsman was stranded by a sharp pick-up and throw by David "shot-put" Atkinson. In a single fluid motion, Atkinson had answered all of the cruel jibes that had been directed at his throwing this season.

Chris Sowden (4-12) and Nick Moore (1-7) allowed no respite to the Hill as they were bundled out for 53, a below-par score even in the testing conditions.

In reply, Andrew and Robert Viney reached the victory target in quick time as Amersham preserved their hold on third place. An enjoyable trip to Barn Meadow was commissioned in celebration to support the 3rd XI on their way to an excellent victory.
