AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Shardeloes X1 on Sun 29 Jun 2008 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 29 runs
Match report
A break in the Sunday league season for Amersham as they welcomed the president and his team to Shardeloes for the annual President's game. After some negotiation in the middle Amersham were put into bat on a lively wicket hoping to put the previous few weeks performances behind them. Owen and Viney got the score off to a steady start and had set a great platform for the rest of the innings when Owen(43) was bowled through the gate and the partnershio of 90 was over. Enter Inzi struggling for form and clearly showing it in the first few overs however he and Andy put on 78 for the second wicket before Andy(73) went for one too many big shots and was caught. Luke joined Inzi at the crease and they pushed the score on before Inzi was bowled a brilliant over culminating in his demise on the 6th ball 3 runs short of his half century. Amersham were 212 for 3 with 10 overs remainingg could we break 300? The President's XI had other ideas and we were reduced from 213-4, Alex Rogers(0) unlucky to be caught at short extra cover to 242-8 a great piece of bowling from Graham and Boyden. Will Gray(14*) showed a promising start to his Amersham Sunday XI career something he would also show in the field a bit later.
After a light tea, with most still stuffed from lunch Amersham decided to go with a Rogers opening partnership of Stuart and Alex(Sorry Ian). Stuart snarred Bailey second ball with what he described as a BIG INDUCKER and bowled a fantastic spell. Alex at the other end was bowling well and was unlucky not to take a wicket herself. First change saw Owen take a wicket with his very first ball outshining Rogers and kept things tight whilst at the other end Mash did the same with some vicious turn and bounce. With the overs slowly running out and the run rate ever increasing something had to give and Abbot decided now was the time to go for it. Runs started to flow and it looked like we were heading for a close finish. Enter Heslop who decided that enough was enough and it was time to hit the bar. Heslop removed Abbot, Parker and Wilkinson in a spell of bowling that can only be described as mesmorising. Jackson finished off the innings with a tidy spell and Amersham had won by 29 runs. One memorable note was Will's catch diving forward and sliding 6 foot. Stuart asked, "What was that?". Will replied, "Effort Stuart just effort". My thanks go to our President and his team for an enjoyable day that everyone enjoyed and we look forward to seeing you next year.
