Match report A damp and dismal day could have been even worse had the match not been played - something that seemed a very real possibility at 12.00 o'clock - however the commendable approach of the Wycombe skipper in pressing the groundsman to allow the game to go ahead saw Amersham secure a vital 25 points to keep promotion within reach with an ultimately comfortable 130 run win over Wycombe 3rds.


Amersham declared on 211-2 thanks to a solid platform laid by openers Jupp and Ash (31) which then allowed Evan Hamilton-Pike (67no) and Weston (84no) to add an unbroken 140 partnership in rather difficult conditions, albeit with the occasional slice of luck! The highlight of the partnership was to see Weston strangely refuse an easy single after having been forced to run ( if this is the right word ) two all-run fours in the space of a few balls.


Amersham were never in danger of losing the game after an excellent opening spell from Ward (11-6-10-3) and it was then a question of whether the wiles of Rajabali ( 3-40 ) and the contributions from the support bowlers could wrap up the victory before conditions deteriorated even further. To the huge relief of the Amersham side, some timely bowling changes reaped rewards and 25 points were duly secured when the final wicket was taken by Rajabali to keep Amersham's promotion charge well and truly on course. With leaders Cove and third placed Kew also registering 25 point victories at the weekend, the scene is well and truly set for a tense final round of league matches next weekend.
