Match report Amersham 3rd XI extended their lead to 36 points at the top of the TVL Div 5a with an ultimately comfortable win over visitors Farnham Common at the picturesque Little Kingshill ground on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first on a superb batting track, the visitors found runs hard to come by in the first 16 overs with Callum Tilbury and Adam Ali (2-22) bowling impressive opening spells. Thereafter runs came more freely with Kalalbandi (66), Andrews (58) and Ali batting sensibly to take Farnham to 230 all out at the end of their 52 overs. Skipper Paul Weston was arguably the pick of the Amersham bowlers with figures of 5-49, aided by some smart glovework by Ben Langley behind the stumps and one or two injudicious shots.
Nick Nguyen (56) and Ben Langley (70 not out) got the Amersham reply off to a rapid start, and had taken the score to 102 in the 16th over before Nguyen's departure heralded a flurry of wickets to leave the home side in a spot of trouble at 122-4. Langley was then joined by Phil Lloyd, making a welcome return to 3rd team action, and they advanced the score to 196 when Lloyd (33) became the 2nd Amersham batsman to run himself out and give Farnham a faint glimmer of hope. However Weston (23 not out) and Langley calmly knocked off the remaining runs to secure another victory and keep the promotion bid well and truly on track.
Next week sees the visit of Kew 2nds to the Little Kingshill ground and it is to be hoped that the the prize of promotion will be brought one game closer.
