Match report Despite suffering a crushing defeat at home to Princes Risborough on Saturday, Amersham 3rd XI nonetheless secured 8 points to ensure promotion to Div 4 next year.

Fielding a youthful and much changed side, Amersham batted first and the opening pair of Mirchandani and Gunartne batted beautifully and at 74 without loss a large total seemed achievable. However the loss of quick wickets saw the home side wobbling at 114-5 and in danger of failing to reach 150 and secure the batting points required to guarantee promotion. This brought together Paul & Joe Weston whose partnership of 54 saw Amersham to a final total of 179 in their 52 overs.

In reply, the home side's hopes were briefly raised when Ollie Lansdowne dismissed Strecker with the second ball of the innings, but this proved to be the only highlight as Matt Greaves ( 97 not out ) and P Bhattacharya ( 61 not out ) took the Amersham attack apart and raced to victory in just 18 overs.

Amersham visit Hayes next week for their final league game of the season and require just 4 points to guarantee promotion as champions.
