Fleet 2nd v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 11 May 2002 at 1:30pm
AMERSHAM CC Won 8 wickets

Match report The second XI got off to a winning start in division 4B with a comfortable victory at Fleet.

Having been put into bat, Fleet started positively, scoring 44 runs from the first eleven overs, before Amersham finally managed to break the opening partnership via Adam Gibson's deadly throw from backward square-leg. Gibson went on to pick up four wickets from his own bowling, and there were two wickets apiece for Charles Holloway and Sam Davies on his league debut, as Fleet failed to use up their alloted overs in scoring 174. The top-scorer of the innings was extras, with a whopping 46.

Simon Blayney and William Walsh set the tone for the Amersham innings with a stylish opening partnership of 76 in 20 overs before Walsh was caught in the deep for 20. Gibson then continued Walsh's good work, allowing Blayney (56) to continue playing the aggressor role. Blayney dismissal via a top-edge to the 'keeper brought Ian Rogers to the crease - but there was no associated lessening of the tempo as Rogers (56*) immediately dispatched the first three deliveries he faced to the boundary. Victory came at a canter, with 13.3 overs to spare.
