Fleet 1st v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 on Sat 04 Jun 2005 at 1:30pm
AMERSHAM CC Won 58 Runs

Match report In a tense affair Amersham beat Fleet off the last ball of the game. Fleet won the toss and asked Amersham to bat first on a damp wicket. Rob Viney and Andy Robertson got Amersham off to a steady start in difficult conditions against some tight bowling from Chalkley and Talbot. The Amersham openers kept the score board ticking over at about 3 an over for the first 20 overs before Viney flashed at one and was caught at Gully for 25. At 68 - 1 Chris Owen joined Robertson who was well into his stride and the pair put on 68 in 14 overs as the momentum began to go with Amersham. At 136 Owen was bowled for a good 31 and Robertson soon followed for another super 76 to leave Amersham 138 - 3. Dan Colquhuon and Paul Weston then added 59 in 9 overs with some lusty blows and one huge six from Weston that disappeared over the pavilion. Weston, Colquhuon and Andrews all then fell quickly with the score over 200. Andrew Viney and Duncan Ward then had a quick swing at the death with Viney playing some lovely strokes to see Amersham post 229 - 6 and be able to declare with an over remaining.
Fleet started their reply in very positive manner with Black punishing anything slightly off line and length. After 10 over Fleet had raced away to 43 without loss. Tom Dixon took the first wicket in the 15 over with one that cut back to remove Hope's leg stump leaving Fleet 76 - 1. A change of bowling saw Mustapha Rajabali remove the danger man Black with his 3rd ball as Andy Robertson took a sharp stumping. Hobdell and Griffiths added 22 before Rajabali struck again as Hobdell hit one straight at Rob Viney. After 30 overs Fleet were well placed at 136 - 3. Fleet needed 93 off 19 overs to win. Another change of bowling saw Fleet lose their 4th wicket as Chris Owen had Griffiths caught by John Andrews. The fifth wicket fell in the next over as Rajabali struck again, this time Downes was caught by Ward and the momentum was back with Amersham as Fleet were 142 - 5 with 17 overs left. Fleet wickets started to fall at a steady rate as firstly Jackson was run out calling for a quick single. Ward swooped from short extra cover and Robertson whipped off the bails to leave Jackson stranded. Rajabali then struck again to leave Fleet 151 - 7 with 9 overs left. Amersham were now in the driving seat and needed 3 wickets to complete victory.

Atkinson replaced Owen and reduced Fleet to 162 - 9 with 2 quick wickets. Amersham now had 4 overs to take the final wicket. Chalkley edged his first delivery to Owen at slip who was unable to hold on to the chance. Pamment and Chalkley looked nervous as they managed to block out Rajabali and Atkinson. With only 1 over left Duncan Ward brought himself back to see if he could remove the one of the last pair. Amersham crowded the bat in anticipation. Pamment managed to keep put the first 5 balls and it was all down to the last ball. Ward came in for one last effort and a little extra bounce saw Pamment gloved the ball and Dave Atkinson dive forward from silly mid on to scoop the ball just inches of the ground to secure a valuable win for Amersham.
