Match report Amersham beat Reading 2nd XI by 9 wickets on saturday to stay top of the league. Reading won the toss and elected to bat first in glorious conditions.
Reading got off to a cautious start with Duncan Ward and David Atkinson bowling tight lines to make it hard to score runs. Duncan Ward was finally rewarded in the 11th over by inducing Dorrington to edge one to slip. Ward broke through again in his next over by bowling Kumar to leave Reading 31 - 2 after 13 overs.

Ali and Kumar slowly built a partnership as they struggled to get the ball away. Mustapha Rajabali had taken over from Ward and kept the pressure on. Atkinson then reduced Reading to 50 - 3 by trapping Huggins in front. Rajabali then claimed the first of his 6 wickets as he had Ali caught at mid on to make it 50 - 4 off 21 overs. Rajabali then got into his stride as wickets started to fall at regular intervals. Nick Moore replaced Atkinson in the attack and kept the pressure on the Reading batsmen while at the other end Rajabali induced an array of false strokes to give the Amersham fielders simple catching practice.

Atkinson took the final wicket as Reading batsmen melted in the sun as they were all out for 108.

Amersham's reply got off to a great start with Rob Viney crashing the first ball over cover for four. Amersham lost their only wicket in the 7th over when Robertson was adjudged LBW with the score on 37. It only took another 10 overs for Viney (65*) and Chris Owen (20*) to score the runs required. Reading tried to intimidate the Amersham batsmen with short deliveries only to see them sail over the boundary. Amersham completed the rout in 17 overs.
