AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 v Tring Park 2nd on Sat 25 Jun 2005 at 1:30pm
AMERSHAM CC Won 9 Wkts
Match report
Amersham maintained their lead in Division 2B with a 9 wicket win over Tring Park.
Amersham won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wet wicket. Both Duncan Ward and Tom Dixon made life difficult for the batsmen by bowling good line and length. Tring Park's first wicket fell in the third over as R Duncan was caught by Andy Viney off the bowling of Duncan Ward. Tom Dixon was unlucky not to claim any wickets in his opening spell that cost 10 runs in 8 over. Duncan Ward took two more quick wickets to Leave Tring Park 20 -3 after 13 over.
J Bush and G Darby started a careful recovery to take the score to 46 after 20 overs. A change of bowling brought immediate results as David Atkinson took a good catch at short extra cover off Nick Moore's first ball.
Moore followed this up with another wicket in his third over to leave Tring struggling at 50 - 5 after 25 overs. Moore was well supported by Chris Owen and David Atkinson who kept the pressure by conceding 28 runs from 17 overs between them. Moore struck twice more in his 7th over to reduce Tring to 59 - 7 off 33 overs.
Dan Plumeridge marshalled the tail very well and struck a very good 63 and added 49 runs in a last wicket partnership after Mustapha Rajabali had taken two wicket.
Plumeridge finally holed out in the penultimate over off Ward to set Amersham a target of 139 to win.
Amersham's run chase got off to a cracking start with Rob Viney and Andy Robertson looking to dominate the bowling. Rob Viney was especially severe on anything off line and length as the openers rattled up 61 in 10 overs by which time Tring had already used 4 bowlers. There was no let up in Amershams run chase as Viney and Robertson reached 100 opening partnership in 17 overs. Both made batting look easy on a difficult wicket before Viney fell for 61 in the 20th over with the score on 122. It was left to Robertson (68*) and Chris Owen to knock the remaining runs required which they did in quick fashion as Amersham passed their target in 22.3 overs.
