Match report Amersham never gained the initiative in the league game away at Chesham. Chesham's opening partnership of Hitesh Modi & Rob Maier put on 140 in a stand spanning more than 30 overs. Matt Crawley posed some early problems but chances did not quite go to hand. The batsmen mixed watchful defence and aggressive strokeplay to make the most of some wayward bowling. Unusually, Amersham's spinners did not provide control and discipline, and it fell to Tom Dixon and Chris Owen to lead the fightback. Dixon bowled better than his figures of 1-36 suggest, and Owen (3-52) chipped away at the Chesham batting line up as they went in search of quick runs. Chesham's final total of 235 was not as many as looked likely halfway through the innings, and Amersham had hopes of a successful run chase. However, Chesham opted to open the bowling with spinners Dave Porter and Hitesh Modi, and this prevented the necessary brisk start. In addition wickets fell regularly, and, when Amersham were reduced to 30-3 off 18 overs, any chance of victory had gone. Dan Colquhoun was the pick of the Amersham batsmen applying himself diligently to the task in hand had depsatching the bad ball effectively. When he was dismissed when Modi returned for a second spell Amersham were staring defeat in the face, but Matt Ash, David Atkinson and James Harmer kept out the Chesham attack for the final 10 overs to record a draw. Not an attractive piece of cricket, but one which showed some determination to avoid defeat.
