AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 v NPL Teddington 1st on Sat 09 Jun 2007 at 1:30pm
AMERSHAM CC Won 10 Wkts

Match report Amersham found the form that had proved elusive over the previous two weeks in some style on Saturday. NPL Teddington were the visitors on a warm, muggy afternoon at Shardeloes. Luke Jackson lost the toss and NPL Teddington elected to bat first on a firm and true looking wicket. Amersham seized the initiative from the very first over, and never surrendered it. Matt Crawley bowled a brisk opening spell down the hill and immediately found the line and length the Shardeloes men are coming to expect from him. The first wicket fell to Tom Dixon, however, who acted as an excellent foil to Crawley. A perfectly pitched outswinger was edged to first slip, where Crawley's safe hands made no mistake. This increased the pressure on Teddington, who scored at less than one an over for the first ten overs. Crawley took two wickets in his opening spell, including th prolific Chris Churchman, superbly caught behind by Rob Viney off an inside edge that deviated extravagantly. Chris Owen replaced Crawley and increased his reputation as something of a golden armed bowler as his first ball, though short and wide, was slashed into the safe hands of Matt Ash by Shoaib Laghari. Amersham were particularly pleased with this dismissal because Laghari had smashed an unbeaten 160 in the corresponding fixture last year. Dixon was replaced by David Atkinson who, after a poor start, found some of the rhythm he has been lacking lately. Subscribing, as usual, to the 'they miss, I hit' strategy of bowling straight, he took two wickets in two balls. In the next over Owen bowled Teddington's top scorer, John Rae-Palmer (29) to leave the visitors reeling at 54-7. The return of Crawley, allied to some safe catching from Ash, Owen and Rob Viney removed the tail and left Crawley with the exceptional figures of 5-7 off 11.1 overs.

Chris Fleming punched the first ball of Amersham's reply to the long on boundary to set the tone for the chase. Fleming (39*) and Viney (24*) scored at a consistent 5 an over to knock off the 74 required before tea with few alarms.

This was a highly satisfying afternoon for Amersham. Hopefully it will makr the start of a good run in a league that does not, as yet, have a clear shape to it.
