Match report Amersham 1st XI dominated their encounter with Bagshot on Saturday but could not quite clinch victory. Electing to bat first on a pitch that was always going to be slow after the recent rains Andy Viney (44) and Chris Fleming (30) ensured a solid start as they put on 55 for the first wicket. The biggest challenge for the batsmen all afternoon was to score quickly on the slow pitch and the Amersham middle order found quick runs hard to come by. Matt Pettet bowled all innings for Bagshot and his brand of medium pace was well suited to the conditions. Chris Owen (15), Matt Crawley (28) and Rob Viney (19) all attempted to up the rate, but all eventually perished in the attempt. In the final half hour of the innings Dan Colquhoun successfully avoided the fielders by hitting the ball some distance over them. His innings of 32 came off only 15 balls and included three sixes and two powerfully struck fours. This attack brough Amersham 53 runs in the last 6 overs, and was the only time all afternoon bat truly dominated ball.

After tea Amersham ensured that Bagshot would not win the game by reducing them to 18 for 3 after 10 overs. Matt Crawley and David Atkinson bowled tightly to minimise scoring opportunities and picked up a wicket each, while a direct hit from Dan Colquhoun accounted for the third wicket. Brothers Andy and Jeremy Davis built a dangerous looking partnership for the fourth wicket before the latter fell lbw to a well delivered slower ball from Crawley. Another slower ball, this time from Chris Owen, accounted for the dangerous Nick Berridge and when Andy Davis was run out after a deft peice of fielding from the ever involved Crawley Amersham were pushing hard for victory with Bagshot reeling at 75 for 6. However, Tommy Whitelock, batting at 7 had other ideas, and he resisted all the home side's efforts for 90 minutes. He found support from Pettet and last man Atkinson (no relation of Amersham's version) as Bagshot finished on 103 for 9.
