AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Cryptics on Sun 19 Jun 2016 at 11:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 76 runs
Match report
The second win of the Sunday XI season and Plangers' first game in charge - a coincidence? Probably not.. But looking from the scoresheet our victory was most certainly clinched by the performance of a rising talent in the club.
After a rather slow start to proceedings, we welcomed an always friendly Cryptics team and tossed up in the sunshine. We won and Sunday protocol dictates that we should bat - so we did, although after being 5-4 from 5 overs we were slightly regretting the decision. Tibble opened the bowling for the opposition with some good away swing and taking the edge of the Amersham batsmen willow on 3 occasions. He was backed up well by Wilkins at the other end who hit a consistent length on a bowler friendly surface.
In a spot of trouble at 25 for 5, our in-form number 7 walked out to middle and commanded the crease. Callum found his timing from ball one and accumulated runs with a technical display of varied shots - plus, he hits the ball extremely hard. Maduka came in at 8 and played his part by scoring another half century for the club. Callum reached his second century of the season just in time for our declaration and, as one of the most popular players in the club, was congratulated off the field with great applause.
Westy kindly made our lunch which was a delicious chilli - to which we always very grateful (the same gratitude extended to Mel, of course). After rescuing most of it from the back step (I don't think he should be fielding in the slips..) we continued our quest for our second win.
Callum decided he hadn't already done enough in the day so he took a wicket with his first ball. He was supported by Mark and Freddie who bowled some very good balls from the pavilion end in their overs. The second change came just before tea when Shardeloes saw the yearly over from Blangie (Ben Langley). The wicket keeper saw his second ball returned to him at a catchable height which he snaffled to record another wicket. The previous 4 seasons have now seen 5 overs, 4 for 31 which must be the best strike rate in the history of the club.
We kept applying pressure after tea and the introduction of Archie Palmer brought 3 good wickets and we were well on our way to winning the match. The final wicket was sealed by the stand-in skipper and we wrapped up proceedings.
Looking forward to welcoming back the Cryptics next year but next week our league season continues with Radlett at home.
