AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Beaconsfield on Sun 12 Aug 2007 at
AMERSHAM CC Lost 111 Runs
Match report
On Sunday Amersham entertained Beaconsfield in the quarter finals of the Bucks Cup. Depsite the forecast, the day turned out to be warm and sunny, and over 500 runs were scored in 90 overs. Beaconsfield won the toss and elected to bat. They faced a rather makeshift Amersham bowling attack which tried hard throughout but ultimately conceded too many extras and allowed Beaconsfield to amass a daunting total of exactly 300. Ben Millar and Chris Thomas both reached 50 as the opening partnership moved on to 140 beofre Millar was bowled by David Atkinson. Atkinson, Chris Owen and, particularly, Ned Kilgannon were the pick of the Amersham bowlers. Kilgannon bowled his offspin with great discipline and considerable skill for one of his tender age and thoroughly deserved the wicket he picked up in the his final over when Ovais Yousuf, Beaconsfield's professional, miscued a sweep. Once again Kilgannon showed that he is one to watch. Luc Walker batted fluently for his 76 and two sixes in the final over saw his side to 300 before he holed out off the final ball of the innings. For Amersham to reach their target would have required a very good start. Unfortunately 2 wickets in the first three overs was not what was required and it was rather an uphill struggle from that point. Andy Viney batted very well for his 69, playing with considerable freedom and hitting some sumptuous drives. He was well supported by Ian Rogers (40) and Chris Owen (35). However, good bowling from Tom Collins (4-46) and Shakeel Ahmed (0-19) kept Amersham in check and the home side finished well short on 209-9.
