Match report Amersham 3rd XI suffered a convincing 82 run defeat away to Cookham Dean 2nd XI in their opening TVL Div 4 fixture, although despite the margin of victory there were many positives for Amersham to take from the game.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first on an excellent pitch, the Cookham openers got off to a blistering start against a below strength Amersham attack. Matters were not helped when the Amersham skipper, Paul Weston, had to leave the field after 25 overs with a dislocated finger and thereafter the Cookham batsmen continued to score freely, with the declaration coming with the score on 315-3 in the 46th over.

In reply the Amersham innings got off to the worst possible start when Graeme McPhillips was dismissed cheaply, but Nick Nguyen ( 43 ), Shuvadip Basu (49) and Roy Sundiram with 50 gave Amersham some hope of chasing down the daunting target, however wickets continued to fall at vital times and it was left to the tailenders to try and bat out the remaining overs. A creditable draw seemed on the cards but with only 10 balls remaining in the game the last Amersham wicket was taken to give Cookham a deserved victory.

Next Saturday sees the visit of Thatcham Town to Amersham 3rd XI's Little Kingshill ground.
