Match report With the Amersham innings in complete tatters at 16-5 in the 9th over there was in all probability only going to be one outcome and so it proved as Amersham 3rds lost by 5 wickets to league leaders Farnham Royal on Saturday.

After losing the toss ( again!! ) and being asked to bat first on what is traditionally one of the better batting wickets in the area, the Amersham top order again crumbled in the face of an accurate seam attack backed up by energetic fielding. Joe Weston, who top scored with 24, then joined his father and the two set about trying to rebuild the innings and together they compiled a watchful 43 run partnership spread over 20 overs, with the younger of the two left handers again showing some of his more senior teammates the virtue of patience, resolute defence and good shot selection. As is so often the case, one wicket brings two, and when both were dismissed with the score on 59 the end of the innings was nigh, though Adam Crossley perhaps gave his skipper a nudge with a steadfast 10 not out to become only the third Amersham batsman to record double figures in the innings.

After an excellent tea, it is to Amersham's credit that heads did not drop in the field and Farnham were given something of a scare in their pursuit of the 89 runs required for victory. Duncan Ward with 3-23 and Adam Crossley (2-30) both bowled really well, backed up by some good fielding, and at 50-5 there was an outside chance of victory being snatched from the jaws of defeat but the experienced Nigel Field with 19 not out and Shave with 23 not out guided the home side to victory in the 31st over.

Next week sees the visit of Wooburn Narkovians and it is to be hoped that the Amersham top order will put in a more resolute performance than has sadly been the case on several occasions so far this season.
