Theale & Tilehurst v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 3rd X1 on Sat 24 Jun 2017 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 48 runs
Match report
An excellent all round performance saw Amersham 3rds record a deserved 48 run victory over Theale & Tilehurst marked by notable debuts from Messrs Rance and Leech.
After losing the toss yet again, Ben Langley (54) and Graeme McPhillips (39) put on 81 for the first wicket against a very good Theale opening attack, with Langley's watchful defense being mixed with some lusty blows from McPhillips at the other end. When McPhillips was smartly stumped, Nick Nguyen looked in fine touch before being caught for 13 which brought Graeme Rance to the crease for his first innings in Amersham (??) colours. Any early nerves were soon banished with a succession of cleanly struck boundaries 0 before a thin edge to the keeper brought about his departure for an elegant 60. A flurry of wickets fell in the closing overs as the Amersham lower order brought up the 200 and tea was taken with the general feeling being that Theale would have to bat well to win.
In reply, Duncan Ward (4-64) and Matt Leech (4-56) in particular bowled with great control and together with a great run out from Nick Nguyen to remove the home skipper, Theale were soon 6 wickets down to put Amersham firmly in control, and had Jack Springgay (43) not been given a first ball reprieve, proceedings would have undoubtedly been wrapped up very quickly. However he survived the chance offered, and together with Robert Dimmack (45) the the score rapidly advanced to cause a little concern in the Amersham camp. Springgay then chanced his arm once too often and was well caught in the deep by P Weston, and after Dimmack fell to Joe Weston it was left to Ward to take the last 2 wickets and secure an important wicket for the visitors.
