Match report Another close encounter at Little Kingshill saw Amersham 3rd XI lose by the narrowest of margins to local rivals Marlow in a keenly fought game played in glorious weather that defied all forecasts.

Having been invited to bat first on a wicket offering some assistance to a good Marlow attack, the Amersham innings was underpinned by a composed half century from Tom Player (51) and Roy Sundiram who showed a welcome return to form with a well constructed 35.

In reply, Amersham hopes were raised with the early dismissals of Graeme Fisher and especially that of Joe Brown who had destroyed the Amersham attack earlier in the season, and with wickets falling regularly the outcome was in the balance throughout. Some commendably mature batting by Will Bovill (27) supported by Keown and Umar eventually saw Marlow to victory by one wicket. Special mention must be made of a most remarkable one handed diving catch on the boundary by Graeme Rance that almost defied belief and deserved to have won the game. Sadly this was not to be, and the result leaves Amersham possibly needing to win 2 of the remaining 4 games to be assured of Div 4 status next year, hopefully starting next Saturday with the visit of league leaders Farnham Royal.
