AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Kew on Sat 05 May 2018 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won By 177 Runs

Match report Amersham 2nd XI made a successful debut in the dizzy heights of division 2 beating Kew by 177 runs. From the moment Richard Stephenson hit the third ball of the innings back over the bowler's head for 4 the tone was set. Stephenson's 68, off 48 balls, entertained the watching throngs before Rob Viney (117*) and Luke Jackson (61) put the Kew bowlers and fielders under great pressure on a warm afternoon. 321 is a daunting total, but the Shardeloes track and outfield did not offer much to the bowlers. 2 wickets in the third over of the Kew innings got Amersham off to the ideal start, as David Atkinson (4-24) dismissed both openers. Kew's middle order batted tidily, and were in position to launch a vigorous chase, but the game took an unusual turn. Duncan Ward, who bowled 7.2 very tidy overs, pulled up lame, and Richard Stephenson persuaded the captain that he was the right man to bowl the four balls left. One of these was a no ball (on account of bouncing twice on the strip next to the one being used for this game), and the resulting free hit travelled some distance, before the final delivery, innocuous in appearance, convinced the hitherto fluent Ramsden to hole out to extra cover. This triggered a flurry of wickets shared between Atkinson and Robbie Marsh (4-25) and Kew subsided to 144 all out.

An excellent start to the season, and the side lies top of division 2a, since the tie breaker between the 5 winning sides appears to be alphabetical order. Off to Windsor next week.
