Beaconsfield 2 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 11 Jul 2020 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Won By 1 Wicket

Match report Amersham 2s opened the season with a nail-biting 1 wicket victory away to Beaconsfield 2s.

On a Sunny afternoon, Beaconsfield won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Amersham bowlers started very well with debutante Deckland Nicholls picking up a wicket in his first over for A's. Beaconsfield reached the end of their 40 overs on 187-4 with J Odedra the top scorer with 58 (Retired Not Out) and J Catherwood-Smith scoring 46 before being caught behind off the bowling of Tom Groves. Henry Ferneyhough also picked up 2 wickets for himself, clean bowling Kaye and Daniel both for less than 20.

Amersham's reply started very positively as they smashed 30 from the first 4 overs thanks to some powerful shots from skipper Chris Fleming and Graham Rance. Rance hit his second ball for an almighty 6 whilst Fleming hit 3 4's in his first 10 deliveries. Things then went slightly pear-shaped for Amersham as they fell from 44-0 to 54-4. Fleming (25) trapped in front by Denzil Owen whilst Archie Palmer (2) and keeper Dan Colquhoun (0) were both caught behind off the same bowler. Rance (21) was also had his off stump rocked by Hancox. Then in came Danyaal Ishaq and Luke Jackson who made a partnership worth nearly 50 in 9 overs before that was broken by spinner Zengerinck. Then Murtaza Shabbir came to the crease and along with Ishaq, they got Amersham to 149 before their partnership was broken by another catch behind off the bowling of Hancox. Ferneyhough and Chapman went soon after, Ferneyhough caught behind and Chapman caught at long on in the attempt to hit a 6. Deckland Nicholls came in and gave Shabbir the strike for most of their partnership but unfortunately, Nicholls was clean bowled for 1. That brought Tom Groves in and together with Shabbir, he helped Amersham over the line with 1 over and 1 wicket in hand.

A nerve racking end to the first match of the 2020 season for the Amersham 2's. Their next match will be against Chesham 2's at Shardeloes in the Thames Valley League (If you can even call it a league this year)
