AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Chesham 2 on Sat 25 Apr 2009 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Lost 62 runs
Match report
Although eventually losing by 62 runs this was a good early season workout for the 2nd XI with everyone getting a chance to bat and bowl. Amersham invited Chesham to bat first on a good track offering both pace and bounce. Chesham paced their innings well and with the help of 36 extras managed to make 210-8 from their 45 overs. The pick of Amersham's bowling being Hanook Gill 2-24 from 10 overs and Evan Hamilton-Pike 2-18 from 6 overs. Steve Potter making his debut for Amersham struggled with his length and line, but did manage to open his Amersham account. The trio of spinners, Rajabali, Marsh & Sidebottom all bowled accurately and were well supported in the field by some tidy fielding. The Chesham total was certainly within grasp on a good pitch as Alex Tilbury (14)and Chris Cowley (33) opened the innings. Chesham's opening pair of Turner & Helm bowled with good pace and accuracy which made runs diffcult to come by. This was not helped by the back injury to Alex, who decided the best form of defence was attack but fell on his sword quite quickly after hitting three successive boundaries. The returning Paul Weston (27) joined Cowley and together put on 55 runs in 12 overs, putting Amersham in a good position of 76-1 needing 134 of the last 24 overs with plenty of wickets in hand and the hitters in the team still come in! After hitting an enormous six over the pavilion Paul hit the first ball of the impressive Turner's next spell straight to extra cover which sparked the traditional 2nd XI collapse from 76-1 to 95-7. Mustapha Rajabali (11) joined Nick Piper (25) and with some sensible hitting and running put on 40 runs to give the Amersham score some respectability. Piper was very unlucky to be caught by a fantastic catch in the slips, after which the end came pretty quickly, although Robbie Marsh (12*) did manage a big six over square leg which dented the bonnet of Jim Sanderson's BMW, who was immediately seen consulting the chairman regarding our public liability insurance policy! On the whole this was a promising start with the bowling and fielding, the batting could be better and will need to be as the league season fast approaches.
