AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Penn & Tylers Green on Sun 26 Apr 2009 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Won 97 runs

Match report It was a cracking day at Shardeloes where Amersham played host to Penn and Tylers Green. Having lost the toss and put in, Amersham made a steady start with Rob Viney and Chris Cowley opening up. They put on 53 in 13 overs before Cowley was what can only be described as having to run around Sonny and was duly run out. Much deliberation went on in the middle as to whether or not the bowler had impeded Cowley, however Phil Sidebottom adjudged it to be out. Enter Hugh Jackson, a duck yesterday on the back of a low score the previous week meant Hugh had to deliver. This he did in partnership with Rob, who together put on 213 for the second wicket leaving Amersham posting a challenging total of 266 for 1. Both Rob(126*) and Hugh(104*) hit the ball to all parts of the ground with a flurry of shots leaving Inzi to have his first dose of pad rash.

After a fine tea, not sponsored by Subway this week Amersham set about their task with Ward and Khandelwal in particular looking to build on some fine early season form. With only 10 men the field had to be right however the bowling was tight and accurate with only 25 runs scored off the first 10 overs. This meant that Penn and Tylers Green had to start attacking and we were all a bit bemused as to when this onslaught would start. Marsh and Viney JNR bowled well and kept the score tight allowing expansive field settings to be employed. It was a case of when the wickets would start to fall as Penn and Tylers task got harder needing 180 off the last 20 overs. Sidebottom who is sometimes known for his liquorice allsorts bowled beautifully and thoroughly deserved his 3 wickets. The game came to end with Penn and Tylers Green 97 runs short for 9 wickets. A fine team performance with bat and ball culminating in another fantastic win for the Sunday 1s, who go into the final warm up with much optimism ahead of the League season which starts in 2 weeks time. 2 wins out of 2 and 2 very convincing performances. Lets hope we continue this in the coming weeks
