Aston Rowant v AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 21 Jun 2009 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Won 126 Runs
Match report
Amersham had an extended journey away at Aston Rowant knowing that today was going to be one of the toughest tests they would face this season, or so they thought. Andy won the toss and elected to bat and once more play our opponents out of the game with a score in excess of 250. Rob and Chris opened the batting and began scoring at a acceptable rate until one stopped and Rob(10) skied to mid on who caught it between his elbows rather than his hands. This led to a bit of a collapse with Amersham struggling at 88 for 4 with 20 overs left in the innings. Chris Owen(43) who had peppered the boundary with some delightful shots previously was caught playing one too many, the Janitor(18) batted technically incorrect and was plumb LBW the first of our batsmen to walk to this dismissal today and Oli Haddock returning from South America minus Swine Flu ran himself out. This meant Andy was joined at the crease by Collison who had somewhat of a re-building to do. Andy(21) departed soon after having been bowled trying to smash one into the nearby maize field. 100 for 5 with 17 overs to go we had to get close to 200 and Heslop(32) and Collison(30) managed to put on 49 before Collison's shot selection left him and he was clean bowled trying to play a cut off middle stump. A few more wickets fell cheaply before Stuart Rodgers(20) launched an assualt on Aston Rowants 8th and 9th bowlers. 197 was respectable and we knew at tea we would have to bowl and field well to register another victory.
The sun came out just as we began our defence and maybe this was the cue for Alex Lines to take the wickets that his bowling had so duely deserved, or maybe it was because Daddy was watching! If we had knew he would have bowled his best spell of bowling all year we would have asked Phillip to come over sooner. Oli Haddock took an awesome one handed catch over his head off Stuart(1-28), however he made it that difficult by walking in 5 yards from backward point if he had stayed where he was it would have been a lot more straight forward. Alex bowled aggressively, including being on a hat trick and the game was swinging our way a lot quicker than we had imagined. Alexs' spell 7 overs, 3 maidens, 4 wickets for 8 runs is the highlight of the year so far for us as a team. Andy(1-1) was left with a trip to A & E as he dislocated his finger in his second over. He managed to get it back in before the swelling took control leaving us looking for a fielder to help us wrap the game quickly. Elliot had duly obliged wearing Inzi's shirt and Oli's trousers and boots. We continued to bowl and field accurately with Chris Owen(2-18) and David Atkinson(2-10) finishing off the tail. We had bowled Aston Rowant out for 71 the best bowling and fielding display I have seen from an Amersham side this year.
