AMERSHAM CC Won By 7 Wickets
Match report
AMERSHAM THRASH UNDER-STRENGTH TRING
A clinical bowling display dispatched Tring for a lowly 84 enabling Amersham's batters to finish the job before tea
Winning the toss on a beautiful hot afternoon, the Tring captain rightly chose to bat first on, what looked like, a true wicket and lightening outfield. Dissension in the Amersham ranks was soon dispelled as Ward and Rogers found considerable movement in the air and immediatly put the opening pair under pressure.
Rogers struck first taking two quick wickets with one that was too quick and one that was too good. With Orton (10) deiciding to hit his side out of trouble Ward brought his considerable experience to bear and enticed a false shot, the dismissal completed by a good high catch from Dolleymore.
With the watchful Smith (17) dropping anchor Amersham targetted the other batters with Ward particularly accurate
The Tring middle order succumbed to a mixture of good bowling, poor shot selection and safe catching - Ward completed a five wicket haul (5-35) with catches from Khandelwal, Colquhound and Dixon.
With Rogers completing his 7 overs, Rajabali (3-24) mopped up the tail despite Wilkinson (10*) and Brooks' (14) late surge.
Small totals can often prove difficult to pass but the reunited opening partnership of Ketteringham and Cowley got our repsonse off to a solid start. Ketteringham (25) was once again the dominant force hitting sweet shots across the outfield but, with a 50 for the taking, hit a leading edge to mid-on
Colquhoun strode to the wicket and continued his arrogant season with a quick fire 17.
It was not to be a match winning innings however, as a lifter from M Orton (3-33) caught him unawares and he was snaffled at short leg. Weston also failed to see us across the finishing line so it was left to Dolleymore (the Savoir Faire Maximum through mid-wicket was one of the largest seen for some time) and Cowley to complete the victory. Cowley again showed his importance with a steady and secure anchoring role whilst the rest smashed around him.
Chesham at Shardeloes next week completes the first half of the season with Amersham currently sitting in second place, 13 points behind leaders Wooburn.
