AMERSHAM CC Won By Seven Wickets

Match report "BA get their wings clipped as Amersham buy a one way ticket to victory"

Amersham got back on the correct flight path this weekend with a “Top Gun” 7 wicket win against a nose-diving British Airways.
After another dank and dismal week (there were reports of Barnes Wallace getting further research in on the Shardeloes outfield), the Ground Crew at Amersham had worked overtime to get the runway ready for a game. There was no hesitation from The Skipper on winning the toss, he would get his bowlers to have first go at launching their laser guided missiles.
A380 Rogers once again opened the bowling from the Field End and despite running in at close to Mach 3, his radar appeared to be pointing towards Heathrow as the batters had little to play at. The Glider Khandelwal opened from the pavilion end and, despite getting a few to stop and lift, his thrust was slightly down on usual levels.
With Montgolfier Rajabali again mapping the Middle East, Sidebottom was drafted in to the side as cover and was introduced to the attack in only the 11th over. His Red Arrows immediately caused problems and Videe holed out to Cesnar Saffrey giving the ACCADT the breakthrough they expected.
Wing Commander Harmer, his beard flapping in the breeze, replaced The Glider, and immediately caused problems to the stalling British Airways top order. His length and fine line on or around the off stump offered little to score from and the initial acceleration plummeted as, in tandem with Red Arrow, cabin pressure was increased.
BA seemed happy to cruise along at less than 2 an over, hoping that Butt (62) and Austin (19) would build a large enough total to defend. They were helped through the middle overs thanks to poor fielding by the home side, seven catches were ditched with Spitfire and Cesnar particularly profligate.
Finally success came as Jumbo took a good catch to dismiss Austin off the bowling of Red Arrows (5-35) who followed this up with the dismissal of Raheem. At the other end The Wing Commander (4-57) was finally rewarded with the wicket of Ishan who left one too many and was bowled.
After a brief interlude from The Skipper who decided to bowl absolute dross (no air related terminology can capture the woefulness of this spell), the young hopefuls bowled to the end and cleaned away the middle and late order with only a cheeky run out stopping them both picking up 5 wickets each.
170 in 52 overs from the Tourists was a challenging total and tea was taken, beautifully served by Air Stewardess Ketteringham, with dreams of a turbulent free approach firmly in mind.
Jumbo and Lancaster Cowley opened the batting and, with Traffic Controller Theaker deciding Watford FC was a more attractive offer than Shardeloes (deluded fool), Jet Propelled Heslop kindly umpired and duly gave Lancaster (0) out LBW to the spinning Singh.
This brought The Flying Fish to the crease, and he and Jumbo relived past glories and started building a fabulous partnership.
Anything short, slightly off line, or even of good length, was dispatched to all areas. Both batters were dismissive of the BA bowlers and hit straight and through the leg side with great confidence. The running between wickets even improved with 2’s and 3’s being taken at will – a mid-air refuel was required by Jumbo after a particularly vigorous over.
Ketteringham’s 50 came and went in usual fashion (6 4’s and 3 6’s) and, despite the BA skipper chopping and changing his bowling attack, the Beacon Boys carried on regardless.
The Flying Fish was only slightly less circumspect in his innings (7 4’s in his 50) and, supported by two generations of Haddock, again showed what the 2’s could have enjoyed this season. His striking of ball, placement of shot, and judge of run, are well up there with any other batter in the club.
Jumbo moved on and completed his second league 100 of the season with a single to deep extra cover – another fantastic innings and one even applauded by the seething Jet Propelled Heslop - before playing a tired shot and being bowled by Prakash (2-32).
Weston decided that the wait in the departure lounge had been too fraught and decided to allow Trolley Dolleymore the opportunity to strike the winning runs, but not before The Flying Fish had posted a well crafted 50.
20 points in the seat back pocket have returned the 2’s to third in the league with a realistic chance of promotion – availability is key!!!
MoM – The U20’s (ish) – but not A380
TFC – The Skipper!
Thanks - Harry
