AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Windsor 2 on Sat 22 Aug 2009 at 12:30

Match report
AMERSHAM SURGE PAST WINDSOR WITH AN EMPHATIC 104 RUN WIN
Amersham continued to heap pressure on leaders Wooburn and second placed Chesham with a 25 point win over fellow title challengers Windsor at Shardeloes on Saturday.
Under sunny skies the Windsor captain called wrongly, and, after much consideration, Amersham chose to bat first. The flying start expected by Ketteringham and Weston did not materialise as Greene (3-81 from 21) and Lazaczuk (2-65 from 13) bowled a good line and length on a hard yet drying wicket.
With Weston (dispatched by a finger twitching Kandelwal!) and Ketteringham gone early it was left to the returning Colquhoun and Palmer to rebuild the innings. Colquhoun again dominated the Windsor bowling, and, despite bowling changes and field movements, there was no way of halting his run accumulation. Compared with recent innings this was a well paced contribution with only 4 runs coming in his first 20 balls – however a late surge meant that when he was dismissed he had contributed 86 runs in only 71 balls.
With the middle order exposed Windsor smelt a chance of chasing a more modest total than previously expected. Unfortunately they had not factored into their calculations the Dolleymore Fan Club. Sited at the top of the hill an increasingly well lubricated posse of Dolley-lovers cheered and hollered every time bat met ball. An uncertain start, pretty much continued in the same vein, but 40 valuable runs were accrued taking Amersham close to 200 until a mini-collapse brought Khandelwal and Ward together.
“Bradman Ward”, deciding that an average over 70 was not quite good enough, hit hard and straight again and notched 58* (taking his average to 97.7) whilst the cameo from Khandelwal of 27 from only 13 balls was highly entertaining.
From worrying that we would not get to 220 in 52 overs, the captain was able to declare after 50 overs with a massive 254-6 on the board.
A fast start was needed - A sharp chance at short mid-wicket by Ash off Rajabali (2-37) was followed by another sharp caught and bowled by Ash (2-46) and an LBW decision in favour of Rajabali meant that after 5 overs Windsor were reeling at 5-3.
Credit must go to the Windsor middle order who fought hard and started adding runs as the field closed in. Charters (28), Davis (33) and Condon (54) all contributed as the Amersham skipper chopped and changed his bowlers, and the ends they bowled, in order to get a breakthrough.
The new ball, stubbornly introduced after the skipper finally decided he wasn’t going to bowl the opposition out single-handedly, immediately brought rewards as Rogers (4-21) ripped through the lower order – three bowled’s showed the young quick that full straight bowling is often good enough for those with lower batting positions rather than looking for the “miracle ball”.
A stubborn 9th wicket stand began to bring a bead of sweat to some Hatchet Heads but a suicidal run out preceded a LBW for the workmanlike Ward (1-36) to finish the Windsor innings with 2.5 overs to spare
A game against bottom of the league Tring is followed by a potential Title Decider with Chesham on the final day of the season – Dollyemore Fan Club take note!
MoM - Rogers
TFC - Emsley (Skippers fault for the wrong batting order though!)
Thanks - Big Bill
