Chiswick & Latymer 4 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 3rd X1 on Sat 23 May 2009 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Well, has it happened? Has the boy finally grown up?
The captain continued his success as a lousy tosser. Tails never fails is the old adage but he called heads and so Chiswick opted to bat on a good bouncy wicket. A few overs later amid cries of 'what's he doing in your 3rd XI' perhaps they wished they hadn't. The opener had been felled, two more batsmen had called for their helmets and Harry Heslop's toes were in danger at short leg from retreating batsmen as Stuart Rogers bowled with pace and venom extracting a lot of bounce from the wicket and his final figures of 14-6-31-3 were an excellent return when other bowlers were going for four or five an over. At 150-9 Chiswick played their joker as the number 11 who normally opens but had felt the wrath of his captain for turning up late then smashed 62 runs to close their score on 216 for 9.
In reply, Amersham were in considerable trouble at 83 for 6 thanks to some good bowling from the opener and two silly run outs. 14 overs later we'd won by 4 wickets. Absolutely amazing as Stuart now with bat in hand battered the Chiswick attack scoring 85 not out including 3 sixes and 11 fours and superbly supported by run out specialist David Mackay (42 not out) saw us home with 14 overs to spare. Two shots stand out. One, a cover drive which comfortably beat the long off fielder to the boundary although he only had to move 10 yards and another, a six off the back foot which was still rising as it cleared the extra cover boundary.
Man of the Match - I wonder who that might be?
