Match report At meet time, 12 noon, the captain only had 9 players.........but thanks to it chucking it down at Shardeloes there were a few idle first-teamers doing nothing that afternoon. So a full eleven headed off to Hillingdon. On arrival it was spitting and the opposition captain for some reason wanted to delay the start. The reason soon became apparent as Hillingdon 1st's had also been called off and there was just time for a regular third-teamer to twist an ankle and for a suitable replacement to appear from Vine Lane! The match started in drizzle anyway 15 minutes late and any guilt felt by ISR soon evaporated as did the rain.

Hillingdon opted to bat and their ringer topscored with 34 before being clean bowled by one of our ringers who went on to take three wickets. Pick of the other bowlers was David Sidebottom with a miserly 1 - 14 off ten and Alexandra Rogers with an almost as miserly 2 - 14 off seven. Hillingdon reached 178 for 9 in their allotted 52 overs.

In reply our other ringer was comfortably outscored by the reliable Harry Heslop who reached another half century. But with very little support from any of the other batsmen other than Alexandra who scored 15 before being narrowly run out having completed 43 yards, 2 feet & 11 inches to Harry's zilch, Amersham held out for a draw at 157 for 8.

The captain will recommend that Messrs Owen and Viney be rightly dropped straight back to the 1st's next week for failing to adapt to the vagaries of 3rd team wickets and 3rd team umpiring but joking apart, many thanks to them both for putting their reputations on the line for the sake of the club.

A lost opportunity because we felt we should have won but c'est la vie!
