Match report Would lightning strike twice............twice! Would Harry get another ton and would the captain declare on Mackintosh in the 90's again. Wait and see.

We batted first on a scorching day at Barn Meadow thanks to the oppo captain calling it wrong. The reliable pairing of Heslop and Mackintosh opened up and just kept batting and batting putting on, well who knows because the scorers didn't record it, but it must have been 170+, perhaps 180. Then the first bit of lightning didn't strike as Harry got tired, missed it, couldn't be bothered to try and get back in and got stumped on a jug avoiding 92. No century this time but mind you the jugs didn't flow too freely when he did get his first ton earlier in the season anyway! However he did ask permission to sneak off to the Eagle on the promise of a pint for him and one for the captain only for Ollie Haddock to ruin the carefully laid plan and get out sending the skipper to the crease just as the foaming pint reached the long off boundary!

So, onto the next bit of lightning. Would the captain declare on Mack in the 90's again? Not a chance. He knew exactly how many runs David had and was planning the declaration accordingly only for a rare rush of blood, a charge down the wicket and the middle stump being knocked back agonisingly with David 4 short of a well deserved century. The declaration came at the end of the 47th over with 232 for 3 on the board, a satisfactory score, a full pint one might say, unlike the captain's which had been consumed by all and sundry in the pavilion!

Off to Shardeloes we went for tea as the clouds began to gather and on our return the clouds had gathered a bit more. Sidebottom opened up and took wickets. Then there really was a flash of lightning and a thump of thunder but no rain and Sidebottom took some more wickets. Mackay nipped in for a couple before another boom of thunder, or was it the captain hitting the deck at silly point taking a magnificent catch off Sidebottom. More thunder and lightning but little rain. Harry, Renny and Hanook seemed more interested in the party of young things wearing not much just outside the Eagle but the Captain didn't notice being more concerned with the game! Could we wrap it up before the torrent started? Piper took a superb catch off the bottom edge behind the sticks off Sidebottom starting to hog the limelight now, more lightning, more thunder and then the full toss that sealed victory as Sidey bowled the last man, well boy actually. Sidey trooped off to a standing ovation having taken 8 for 35. Brilliant!

25 points, thanks guys.
